Call for Presenters

The economic vitality of cities and their business communities are increasingly driven by a highly educated, creative and innovative workforce and by the ability of its citizens to create, commercialize, extend and absorb innovation.

Cities with a creative, diverse, highly skilled and innovative citizenry are more competitive, prosperous, create a fertile environment for sustainable growth and are more resistant to recessionary shocks. For companies and cities, this translates into higher revenues and economic expansion.

This year’s inaugural event focuses on increasing the intellectual energy across all of Houston's tech community - developers, designers, engineers, doctors, researchers, educators, technologist, makers, entrepreneurs, technology enthusiasts, students, organizations, start-ups and established companies.

Industry practitioners, subject matter experts, and experienced speakers are invited to submit an abstract up to 800 words describing the details of your presentation. We are seeking presentation proposals for roundtables, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and hands-on developer sessions. We are also accepting fresh ideas, novel ideas and new topics. So, in addition to the suggested topics below, we welcome you to surprise us.

All topics and submission formats are open to both research and industry contributions. Topics to be addressed include (but are not limited to):

  • Our vision of the smart city roadmap (Keynote Panel)
  • Digital Health + Sustainable Development = Innovation
  • Emerging technologies reinventing cities
  • Be vigilant; Be resilient: Blueprint for defeating cyber attacks
  • Fabulous Fifty +: Stay connected
  • Mobile crowdsourcing smart apps
  • Social media bootcamp: Game changer trends for entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses
  • Intelligent transportation: Today and Tomorrow
  • LEAN IN roundtable: women executives paving the way
  • Smart technology solutions for connected cities
  • Large scale emerging tech demonstrations and living labs
  • Sustainable development and energy efficiency
  • Implementing the smart city in the Cloud
  • Internet of Things (IoT) for smart cities (M2M)
  • The future of digital & environmentally sustainable communities

Guidelines


Dates and Deadline:

  • Speaker submissions are due September 30, 2013 (by end of day)
  • Final selection of speakers and confirmations will be sent on October 7, 2013
  • Presentation slides must be received by November 8, 2013

All submissions will be reviewed by an objective committee of expert practitioners for their value and applicability. If you have any questions, you may email us at: techstreethouston@live.com.

Additional Guidelines

  • Case studies, interactive workshops, and advanced level presentations for experienced professionals are strongly encouraged.
  • Remember this is an educational venue. Clearly stated learning objectives are a must to consider the submission complete.
  • Well written abstracts improve your potential for selection.
  • Speaker(s) understand that some session proposals will be posted on-line for an open vote by TechStreet Houston Committee Members and/or the general public.
  • A microphone(s) (if needed) and LCD projector will be available for each session. Please be prepared to use your own laptop. Should you choose to use a Mac or other touch devices, you will be responsible for providing a converter or any needed cable adapters.
  • Prepare to provide your bio, picture, and company information
  • All presentations must be educational in nature and may not promote any company, product or service.

*TechStreet Houston does not pay travel expenses or honoraria. Speakers will receive a full conference pass and an opportunity to network and attend all conference events.
