Standardized Test Scores

Submitting test scores to Deep Springs is optional. If you do submit scores, they will be reviewed along with other indicators of academic ability. If you do not, you will not be penalized.

We have no preference between the two tests. Please submit only your highest scores. Should you be invited to complete the second round of the application process, you will be asked to submit official score reports if you included test scores originally, so please take these tests well before the second-round deadline in January. We will consider results from the SAT Subject Tests as well as any Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate exams you have taken, but they are not required. If you have results from more than 5 additional tests, please report only the 5 most important (to you) in the space below. You may report additional test scores in the supplemental information Section c if you wish. Contact the Applications Committee if you have any questions or concerns.

International applicants are also not required to submit scores from the SAT or ACT, though we will consider scores if they are reported.  Students who are non-native English speakers are asked to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores, as fluency in English is necessary for success at Deep Springs. We are looking for TOEFL scores of at least 100 or IELTS scores of greater than 6.5 High scores on English language subject tests (e.g. AP English Language, IB English HL) and language mastery demonstrated in the essay portion of this application can substitute for TOEFL or IELTS scores upon request. For the year of 2023, we are also accepting the Duolingo English test.

The Deep Springs CEEB/SAT/AP/TOEFL code is 4281; the ACT code is 0252.

Essays and Short Answer

Where did you first hear about Deep Springs? * 🛈
Where, if anywhere, since? 🛈

Many college applicants are encouraged to respond to essay prompts with a stock narrative of their progression. Note that throughout these essays, we want to know how you think, and how your writing reflects your thinking. To that end, please avoid imagining what we want to hear; we have no particular answers in mind.

Note: Please do not submit essays as an attachment. However, we highly recommend writing and saving your essays in a text editor in case of computer malfunctions. Please check the grammar and structure of your essays before you submit them.

Submission Instructions

The supplemental attachment, your academic transcripts, and this completed online form constitute your first-round application to Deep Springs College.  This application is subject to change from year to year.  Please check our website to ensure that you have the latest version.

Please submit the entire application by November 6, 2022.  This online form will close after November 7.  There is no application fee.  The Applications Committee does not necessarily send confirmations of received applications.  If you would like to confirm the successful submission of your application, please contact the Applications Committee.

In mid-December, the Applications Committee will notify you if you are invited to participate in the second round of the application process.  All students traveling to campus for their interviews must have a COVID vaccination.  If you are not vaccinated or do not feel comfortable traveling at this time, virtual interviews are available.
