Rehabilitation & Training for Patients with Lower Extremity Amputations

Program Description:
This two-day workshop is designed for healthcare professionals who care for lower extremity amputees. The first day of this course will provide an overview of lower extremity terminology and statistics; prosthetic components; and how to classify a patient’s potential mobility based on the Medicare K-level system. Participants will be guided through the prosthetic fitting process and rehabilitation training with the ultimate goal of improved patient education and outcomes in mind.

The second day of this course will focus on prosthetic treatment strategies, and will give participants the resources needed to properly educate their patients. Participants will be guided through prosthetic gait requirements and deviations, barriers to rehabilitation; self-reported and performance measures for the patient; and gain insight into parallel bar activities and how to build customized rehabilitation plans.
